Cherie McCarthy is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (123557) and has been in the field of human services since working with autistic and emotionally disturbed youth in a social enrichment program as a young adult in Bakersfield. “It was there, in my late twenties, that I discovered the ability to make a positive contribution in the lives of children.”
From there, working in Hawaii High Schools as a counselor helping kids in trouble get back on track, she began a 20+ year career as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. This remains one of her specialties with both at-risk individuals, young and old alike, to those with a severe substance use disorder, or process addictions.
In 2009, after a brief sabbatical to work in real estate, Cherie returned to school to study and eventually gain a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and has been working in the field with varying populations since.
Modalities are tailored to the presenting client(s) using a client-centered approach. Skills employed are often DBT, CBT, and psychodynamic processing depending on presenting needs and client preference.
“For children, teens, adults, families, and couples, I will meet you where you are, understand where you’d like to go, and together, we will uncover the innate wisdom and courage in you that will allow you to gain the confidence to take you there. It would be an honor to be a part of your journey.”
